I wanted to clear up a common myth I see shared in Costa Rica Facebook groups… the idea that you can use your Costco card at PriceSmart here in Costa Rica.
It’s an easy mix-up. PriceSmart feels a lot like Costco… the warehouse layout, the bulk sizes, even many of the same products on the shelves. But despite the similarities, they’re not the same company. While there was once a loose historical connection between the two, PriceSmart is not owned by Costco, and the memberships don’t transfer between them.
PriceSmart operates independently throughout Central America and the Caribbean, and you’ll need a separate membership to shop here.
If you’re planning a move to Costa Rica, here’s a friendly reminder: cancel your Costco membership just before you make the leap. It’s one of the many small, practical but still important details that can slip through the cracks when you’re preparing for an international move.
And if you’d like some help sorting through all the little details like that — what to cancel, what to keep, what to bring, and what to leave behind — that’s exactly what my relocation counseling is for.
When you sign up for the 3-session package, we have the time to plan out every step of your move with clarity and confidence so nothing gets missed along the way. It’s designed to make your transition smoother, less stressful, and a whole lot more organized.
